Baby Storme: The Crypt Keeper We Never Knew We Needed

 


This city is a graveyard and we're all zombies dancing to the new alternative tune. Yes, you heard correctly alternative music has a new tune to add to their chilling playlist and it's bringing a zombified aura like no other. 

In a city that never sleeps and is full of lights that will inspire you, an independent alternative singer is breaking a color barrier and luring us with her new pop-alternative single. Her name is Baby Storme and she's the new Indie-Alt "IT Girl." Baby Storme is an upcoming independent-alternative singer-songwriter from Manhattan, New York, who on June 22, 2023, released her ALT-Pop single on all streaming services called," This City Is A Graveyard." This song is heavily inspired by ALT singer-songwriter WILLOW and R&B/Soul singer-songwriter Steve Lacy. However, this wouldn't be an unbiased article if I don't take the time to mention that Baby Storme made this song with the help of music producer CJ Baran, who's worked with artists such as  Panic! At The Disco, Melanie Martinez, and Britney Spears. Which if you ask me would be a stamp of approval in its own right for Baby Storme. Baby Storme herself would describe This City Is A Graveyard as a commercial Pop-Alt song, which we couldn't agree with more.

Unlike some people who knew of Baby Storme for going viral on TikTok for her check being confiscated for unknown reasons at work or her story time video about meeting New York rapper Tekashi69, I encountered Baby Storme's music by scrolling through my For You Page. Like many independent artists, Baby Storme was promoting her music, in particular, her new single This City Is A Graveyard. And once I heard the song I felt like I was in an episode of the Netflix series Wednesday doing the infamous Wednesday Adams dance. I soon did my research and started to listen to Baby Storme's other music and found myself enamored with her disillusioned siren voice which could bring any person to listen to alternative music. 

Still, the one thing that struck my interest was that she was a black alternative artist. There's no secret that in alternative music there are not many people of color, especially black artists. The only black alternative artist that I do know is WILLOW sadly. So when I saw her video promoting her single, I knew I should give it a try and I couldn't be happier. In fact, the world couldn't be happier. As of recently ever since releasing her hit single This City Is A Graveyard her popularity has increased as well as multiple TikTokers have been using her song in their videos to help promote Baby Storme's music. Mind you this all occurred during the beginning of the summer and ever since I continuously see videos of others promoting Baby Storme's new single and we love to see a Black Alternative artist flourish, especially an upcoming and independent one. It's safe to say Baby Storme has one of the Songs Of The Summer for the year for 2023 and is the crypt keep we never knew we needed. 

This City Is A Graveyard, especially gives such an allure since the release of the music video which takes inspiration from the King Of Pop Micheal Jackson's Thriller music video featuring the hauntingly chilling voice of actor Vincent Prince. From Baby Strome's signature dance move seen in the music video down to the graveyard in the background. The music video was fantastic and looked as though it was a fun set to be on. If I could say one thing to Baby Storme I would say," Keep being yourself and never change who you are to fit the status quo, and no matter how much people criticize your music or you for being a Black Independent Alternative Artist never stop trying."
