The Pop-Star We Need To Look Out For: Precious

 


"We'll Be The Sugar And Spice, " and if that's the case we're everything that's nice for this bubbly pop star on the rise. Yes, you've heard correctly that a bubbly pop star is on the rise, bringing bubblegum bubbly pop music back into popular demand with a diverse sound.

In Atlanta, Georgia, the state known for its sweet tea and sunshine brings a new artist on the rise giving us Blaque, Brittany Spears, and Nivea vibes, which for some may go unrecognizable since not many know about the singer R&B/Pop singer Nivea or 90's girl group founded by TLC member, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Blaque. Still for us with a solid connection and passion for music and pop culture, these artists will never stray away from our memories. And with the help of the lovely talented Precious, we are reliving all Y2k memories that some of us have experienced, or wish we could since we were born in the early 2000s. Precious herself would describe her music as a nostalgic, bubbly, pop vibe and I couldn't agree more. 

However, like many indie artist Precious, has had to go through several challenges especially juggling being an indie artist and a college student, something I think most of us college students knows all too well.  Yet, I must commend her determination and strive, because per-pressure truly is a challenge when you're a college student with dreams and aspirations. With the many challenges college brings a college student, Precious still managed to release multiple singles that would eventually lead up to her EP, " Babe, Come Outside," released May 13, 2023, on all streaming platforms. 

The album overall is a bubbly pop ray of sunshine that would put any smile on a Y2K teen or kid with a vibe that makes you want to dance to the bouncy music. My all-time favorite of the EP would be "Her Spell." I love the lyrics and the production for the entire song and overall the song was very top-tier and nostalgic. 

Like many people, I was scrolling through TikTok on my for you page, when I saw Precious's TikTok appear promoting herself as a bubbly black girl popstar, and I instantly followed her and started to listen to her music, with my favorite songs of her's being, "Sugar and Spice" and "Any Way U Want." I love how they seem to be a combination of Y2k pop with a little EDM and up-tempo beat which sounds like a Britany Spears song. 

Furthermore, I seem not to be the only one to notice Precious's amazing talent with her earning a partnership with Sephora, who recently launched a music collective to champion and invest in diverse artists for a more inclusive creator community. This is a huge deal especially when you are an independent artist simply waiting for that "viral" moment of for you to get recognition. Precious's simply is only getting better by the day since she has been gaining more attention on the streaming platform Spotify, with her earning more than 1.2 million in streams from 178 countries and being included in several playlists made by others, such as the H&M in-store playlist. All of which would further promote herself as an artist and musician.

In other words, if I could say one thing to Precious I would say," Congratulations on the success you have already been earning, and do not lose hope in your artistry because you're very creative and seem to have a knack for both music and production design too."
